High Strength Steel Heat Sink Clip for the Electronics Industry
At RC Coil Spring, our facility houses a wide variety of equipment, which enables us to use the most expedient and cost effective means of producing any individual component. To manufacture the heat sink clip highlighted here, we chose our 4-slide press, which allowed us to complete all operations with minimal set up and handling.
Intended for use in an electronics application, we formed this part from 0.05 mm thick ultra-high strength cold rolled steel, Martensite M-130. Its uniform mechanical properties in both longitudinal and transverse directions allowed flexibility in design and enabled us to maximize material utilization. Featuring finished dimensions of 18 mm in length x 10 mm in width, our stable, predictable, and repeatable process allowed us to uphold ± 0.05 mm tolerances over an entire 500,000 unit production run. Black zinc plating and passivation, completed in accordance with RoHS directives, provided maximum corrosion protection.
In addition to dimensional inspections, quality assurance procedures involved bend tests to ensure the material possessed the ductility to resist cracking or other surface irregularities when stressed. We currently run production four times a year in half-million unit lots, and our end-to-end manufacturing capabilities allow us to ship finished product two weeks after setup.
